FUNdraisers and Service Projects

The members of Soroptimist International Oceanside-Carlsbad work hard all year to raise money for local organizations that benefit women and girls. The money raised during one fiscal year is distributed at the end of the following fiscal year at the Community Service Awards Luncheon. In 2011, we awarded nearly $17,000 to local organizations.

Our annual projects include and have included (please click the links to the right for information about our projects for the current fiscal year):

Salad Luncheon: The club's longest-running event. Members make a variety of salads for this weekday luncheon, which is attended by a lot of "movers and shakers" in Oceanside and Carlsbad. Takes place in March; click the event title for more information.

Project CEO: One of the club's newest "hands-on" service projects, Project CEO involves gathering business clothes and presenting educational workshops so that women can get back into the workforce on an equal footing.

Ruby Awards Luncheon & Fashion Show: A Saturday luncheon where the Ruby Awards are presented to local women who make a difference in our communities. Club members participate in a fashion show to music that they choreograph themselves, while wearing the latest fashions from local boutiques. A definite "don't miss" event among women-in-the-know who live in the Tri-City area. Takes place in June; click the event title for more information.

Wine For Art: Annual wine tasting event at the Oceanside Museum of Art. Proceeds go toward art scholarships for Oceanside and Carlsbad high schoo seniors. Click the event title for more information.

Dirty Deeds: A fun little fundraiser, held during a program meeting in the fall, where members auction their skills and services to other club members and guests. Examples: Painting a room, airport taxi service, handicrafts, homemade goodies.

This new event is a film festival with films by women about women, presented by the company that makes Luna energy bars. More on this to come.

 

Service Projects
In addition to our FUNdraisers, we do "Hands-On" service projects, some of which have been:

Human Trafficking Walk in Vista
This is a project led by our sister club, SI Vista. Soroptimist International of the Americas also is very involved in exposing and ending the sex trafficking of women and girls, which happens right here in our communities.
