Human Trafficking Walk
Hands-On Project

Members of Soroptimist International of Oceanside-Carlsbad participated in an awareness walk in January, 2011, which was organized by our sister club, SI Vista.

Sex trafficking of young girls and women happens right here in San Diego County, as well as around the United States and throughout the world. Human rights groups estimate that anywhere between 12.3 million and 27 million people are enslaved in forced or bonded labor, child labor, sexual servitude, and involuntary servitude at any given time.

In 2008, Soroptimist began an annual awareness day, each January, to bring this heinous crime to light, and urge citizens to pay attention and report suspected sex trafficking activity. Read more about this on the Soroptimist International of the Americas Web site.

Many member of Soroptimist participated in the one-mile awareness walk.
